No reason - we're just showing off really. It's a little trick to illustrate how a well structured site (using CSS, XHTML, a dash of DHTML and other cryptic acronyms) can be presented in different ways without needing to duplicate the content. By default you'll get a random scheme, but if you express a preference a cookie is saved to remember that setting and follow you around the site.
The site is fully compliant with web standards. This means that as well as being flexible, as demonstrated by the above, it's search engine friendly (the information is tagged to be understood by automated systems) and accessible.
Specifically it is "XHTML 1.0 strict" and complies with "Section 508" accessibility guidelines.
But standards aren't everything. If you find anything on the site that doesn't work as well as it could on any browser or screen reader then please contact us.
